This weapon is designed for the 5.8x21mm DCV05 sub-sonic round that is also used by the QSW-06 Silenced Pistol. It is manufactured and developed by the People's Liberation Army 208 Research Institute and Jianshe Industries (Group) Corporation of Chongqing under the China South Industries Group for the People's Liberation Army (PLA), the People's Liberation Army Special Operations Forces and the People's Armed Police. The QCW-05 ( Chinese: 微声冲锋枪, 2005 pinyin: Wēishēng Chōngfēng Qiāng, 2005 literally: "Silenced Assault Gun, 2005") (officially translated in pinyin as Qiāng Chōngfēng Wēishēng, literally 'Gun, Assault, Silenced') (also referred to as the Type 05) is a suppressed submachine gun.
There is also a steel shoulder stock which folds to the right of the gun when not in use.Type 05 (Weisheng Chongfeng Qiang QCW-05)ĥ.8x21mm DCV05 (QCW-05), 5.8x21mm DAP92 (QCQ-05) The Type 85 SMG is fed using same 30-round box magazines as the Type 64 SMG. The Type 85 silenced SMG is optimized for special 7.62×25mm Type 64 ammunition with heavy, subsonic bullets, but can also fire standard 7.62mm Type 51/7.62×25mm TT ammunition with increased loudness. The Safety/fire mode selector lever is located at the right side of the trigger unit, above the trigger guard, and allows for single shots and full automatic fire. It uses tubular receiver made from steel, and there is long silencer tube also made from steel. The Type 85 submachine gun is a simple blowback weapon that fires from an open bolt.
Both weapons are used by PR China police units, as well as PLA soldiers. The Type 85 submachine gun was developed during the early 1980s as a less expensive replacement for the Type 79 submachine gun, as well as a silenced version to replace the Type 64 submachine guns which were in service with the Peoples Liberation Army.
